Keep Atlanta Beautiful and Partners Keep Earth Day Rolling All Month Long!

Since the Greener Atlanta Initiative launched its community outreach program in 2007, support from our partners has made it possible to connect with thousands of residents; helping them understand their carbon footprint, inspiring them to step more lightly in Atlanta and improving the quality of life for residents and visitors of Atlanta for generations to come.

Each April, Earth Day provides an opportunity to connect with community members and organizations who share these same values. Below is a brief overview of what we accomplished in just one month!

  • 26 teams across Atlanta collected thousands of pounds of litter and recyclables (numbers are still coming in. Stay tuned to www.KeepAtlantaBeautiful.org for details).
  • Reclaimed hundreds of illegally dumped tires in partnership with Scrappy Green Recycles to be recycled as eco-safe playgrounds; estimates to date
    are 18,000 tires. more...
  • Properly disposed of several tons of eWaste at the Turner Field eWaste Recycling event with Councilmember Carla Smith on April 26; (The
program continues at Grady High School in Midtown Atlanta every 3rd Saturday, which in April recycled 30,000 tons of e-waste.) more...
  • Hosted the 2nd Annual Arms Around Atlanta ~ Earth Day Celebrations at Zoo Atlanta and Glenwood Park, providing the public with a fun way to celebrate Earth Day with live entertainment, Kids ECO-Zone and
the Organic and Local Taste of Atlanta.
  • Put on the Stepping Lightly in Atlanta Awards Contest presented by Pratt Industries and in conjunction with the WSB-TV’s People’s Choice Awards, providing a way to reward kids in Metro Atlanta who are caring for the environment in their
    local communities.

The power of partnership is what makes the City of Atlanta great! We appreciate the community's continued support of Keep Atlanta Beautiful’s Greener Atlanta Initiative. Special thanks go to Pratt Industries for their support as the 2008 Benefactor supporting our Stepping Lightly in Atlanta Awards and The Home Depot Foundation, now entering their second year as a Greener Atlanta Benefactor and to Zoo Atlanta for hosting the Arms Around Atlanta~Earth Day Celebration on April 19th.  Collectively we can Keep Atlanta Beautiful and create a Greener Atlanta!
